In praise of the MLA

I know it has been some time since the Medical Library Association Conference, but I would like to add some of my tidbits about this organization. The MLA put on a great show, and although I was only there for two of the five days, I enjoyed myself immensely.

In a previous professional life, I had been to some conventions and conferences (mostly in the telecommunications industry). Those “paled” in comparison with the recent MLA show in Chicago. Never have I been around more raw “brain power” in all of my days :-)

Seriously, these professionals, as well as the support personnel, the vendors and the organizers were all at the top of their game – and that is to confer and share their collective experiences in providing the best health sciences information in the world.

My only regret is not being able to stay longer, as it was planned on short notice. Another regret is that I may not be able to make it to the next MLA since it will be held in Honolulu next May. That is a great thing for the people who can attend, but in my court right now, I will gladly earn a health sciences librarian position. And, BTW, I wouldn’t even mind paying regular membership fee – by then I hope that some library will send me :-)
