Usually, I will not “weigh-in” on political matters, however the article talks about a great resource – The Internet Archive. It also talks about someone who just said no to the feds, when “served” with an NSL – a National Security Letter.
Brewster Kahle is one of the early pioneers of the Internet, its design and structure. As you will read, Mr. Kahle stood up to an FBI inquiry of his site. It’s refreshing when anyone hears some good news like this, let alone librarians. Mr. Kahle is providing basically a public service; whether that may be getting records for someone’s special projects, genealogical research, etc., somebody “out there” will find this quite important.
I think the ruling regarding the potential restrictions placed on the site is a big victory for democracy. Perhaps this is a move away from the insanity of the past few years, e.g. NSL’s, warrentless wiretapping, suspension of habeus corpus, ad nauseam! Vive l’information!
